Sound Journals

Whew! What a busy couple of weeks we've had!  We worked very hard to prepare our work and classroom for our parents' open-house visits.  This week we got right back to work in our sound journals.  Here we are practicing F's letter formation and identification.

Next we dry off our papers with a little dancing.

We brainstorm some F words that we know and sound them out in French. Next we pick one and write it in our sound journal.

 

Pumpkin Experiment

We had such a great time carving our pumpkins but they were starting to get soft and a little smelly. What a great opportunity for some pumpkin science! First we talked about what was happening to our poor smelly pumpkin. The kids told me that he was rotting and soon he would just be a pile of mush. We filled our moldy, old pumpkin with garbage from today’s snack. I told them that we would be burying him in the dirt and digging him up in April (for Earth Day). I asked them what they thought would happen to him. They unanimously agreed that the pumpkin would be gone by then. Most of the kids also guessed that the garbage would be gone too. Sometimes science experiments take a long time ... we’ll check back in April. 

We also worked on our October self-portraits. We love watercolour painting! 

Field Trip - Manitoba Museum

Well, we survived our first field trip! It was such a great morning. We watched a presentation on colour and explored the Science Gallery. The kids didn’t want to leave!! Here are a few hundred (haha) pictures of them in action. I’ve left the pictures from the two classes together because they were mixed during the two portions of the visit. Sorry about some of the shots being blurry. The kids were on the move!!
