Our
caterpillars arrived and we each got to pick one to call our very own.
We’ve named them and are busy watching them grow and change. Some of
them are in their chrysalis and some are already butterflies.
The names the kids chose were ADORABLE! Here they are:

Anna - ROSIE
Aron - SHARKY
Blake - SHARK DANGER
Dylan - LAINE
Emerson - CUTIE
Emma - ICE CREAM
Evan - ELI
Greyson - SHARKY
Hazel - GLITTER CUPCAKE
Kenzy - ANITA
Leland - HUDSON
Margarette - DEANIE
Mary - BUBBLE GUM
Max - BATMAN
Nathaniel - SPIDERMAN
Raina - ROSIE
Sophia - EMERALD
We learned all about the butterfly life cycle. We looked at pictures and props before acting out the stages. Did you know a caterpillar pops its head and skin off as it gets too big for it?! It sheds its head and skin five times before building its chrysalis. Another interesting fact: a butterfly isn’t just a caterpillar with wings. When it enters its chrysalis, it breaks down into black goo, a pile of cells which rebuilds itself into a whole new creature, the butterfly.
We emerge and pump coloured ink into our wings and wait for
them to dry before we can fly.
them to dry before we can fly.
We love to observe and play with our caterpillars. They are getting long and fat.
Our first chrysalis! It was Mary's caterpillar, Bubble Gum. Good job, Bubble Gum!
Raina's little chrysalis became our first caterpillar. Way to go, Rosie!
